The first capital of the Russian state was Vladimir. In the 12th century, Prince Yuri Dolgoruky founded Moscow, which became the second capital of Russia. In the 18th century, St. Petersburg, founded by Peter the Great, became the capital. In the 20th century, Moscow became the capital again.
